David Fried kinetic sculpture...how!?

I am trying my hardest to figure out how the hell these things move as they do.

one is computer controlled magnets under a table

the other is hamsters inside each sphere...


anyone else have a guess?

Looks pretty cool... my guess is that either the table and the balls contain magnets where the table moves the balls around or the balls itself contain dynamic magnets and contract / push eachother....
