I will be going home tomorrow and my laptop will become the communal laptop for skype, photos etc

However, I have bought my mother some earrings for Christmas and many sites keep showing not only an advert for the shop but the exact earrings I bought. Is there any way to reset the google tracking cookie / id so this doesn't appear? (I have already cleared the browser data from the Chrome menu).

Go to Chrome -> Preferences -> Under the hood. You can clear browsing data, just make sure cookies are selected. You can also view which cookies are stored to ensure what you are looking for is removed.

You can also get something like Onyx, or the new Ccleaner for mac if you want a utility that can do that among other cleaning tasks.
