    Hi,

I don't believe anyone would argue against the Cinema Display winning in the aesthetics category. However, how do these monitors match up when it comes to performance? Are they comparable? I currently have an iBook and have heard of performance issues with the 2007WFP. Is the Dell monitor worth $329 assuming the potential issues?

you can do some quick searches throughout these forums: this question has been answered at length over MANY threads.

the short answer: the dell monitors are great, and very comparable to ACDs.

I'm reasonably sure the panel in both are the same, but Apple has higher quality control over theirs. The Dells have had color banding issues, mostly with displaying gradients (think of a color gradient viewed at 256 colors--they weren't that extreme, but there were discernable lines where each slightly different shade began). Also, Dell tech support is rumored to suck.

That being said, my 2007WFP will be here later this week. If they're still 20% off, it's a steal. I'm excited.

JarinS1, if you have the money, I would go for the 20" ACD. :)

    I'm using the 20'' 2007WFP and it's great.

I don't know much about monitors, but it looks just as good as what I saw in the apple store...

It's also the same silvery color as a lot of the apple products so you can't go wrong.

Spec wise, they're the same size and resolution (1680x1050)
    Dell Apple
300 cdm brightness 250 cdm brightness (Dell is brighter)
700:1 contrast 300:1 contrast (Dell wins again)
89º viewing angle 178º viewing angle (Apple wins)

Other than that, it's just the case.

    That's +/- 89º so it is 178º

In which case, as the OP states, the Apple Cinema Display wins over the Dell LCD hands-down! :)

 Maybe its time for a "Dell vs. ACD" sticky at the top of the forum? This gets asked at least once a week, and the answers are always the same.

I recently purchased my 20" Apple and LOVE it! It blows my high end ViewSonic out the water, haven't had a Dell to compare it with. Bonus points for my Apple cinema display is that it looks and works great with my mbp, if I weren't moving so far, I know this is a monitor I would keep for a long time :) Maybe you should go instore and see if you can test both out since ultimately you being happy with your next monitor is what matters most :)

They don't sell dell in stores (yet). But if you got enough cash to spend get the 2407, the only reason why you would go for a 20" cinema display is if you are on a tight budget and really want the apple look.
The dell is ok looking, has a pivot function, a better panel, and costs less.

And if you say money isn't a issue I would go for the 23 or 30" apple offcourse :)

They sell things at Dell stores? I thought it was just a showroom.

Are there dell stores allready then? Sorry didn't knew that yet, thought they only made the announcement they were going to expand to normal stores.

p.s. I never said they sold things at dell stores in my post. (I assume you were being sarcastic otherwise never mind, maybe they do really only have showrooms :) )

Yeah, there was a rumor article about the Dell stores. They turned out to be showrooms somewhat like the defunct Gateway Country stores.
