I just got a 20" iMac, and I love it! (Rev. B/2GHz) but I just saw PGR3 on a 360 and it was amazing... so at this point it's purely consideration, but I need some help. I was considering selling the iMac and buying a mac mini and a HD LCD, either the 23" Apple HD ($1100 w/ student discount) or the Dell 24" HD LCD ($970 on sale). I would want to use the LCd for both the mini and 360, but I think the Apple only has the DVI input/output, so I could have it connected to the mini, but nothing else, whereas the Dell has a whole array of inputs and outputs, so I could have the 360+mini connected at all times. But how would I need to connect the 360 to get 1080i? does component do it? thanks a lot!

I think you'd have to use an HDMI>DVI (I'm assuming it's HDMI from the x360, I know next to nothing about it) adapter from the x360 to the Dell, then put the Mac mini on VGA.

Xbox 360 can use VGA, so you could hook it up with that. It doesn't use DVI/HDMI afaik.

I *think* it's included in the "Premium" package. Probably have to be bought seperately if you buy the Core package.

Component might also work, but don't quote me on that.

the issue with VGA is that it wont give me 1080i, and If i'm going to spend ~$1k I want to get 1080i, and I need to use DVI with the mini, because VGA isnt widescreen, so on either set up the DVI is going o the mini, so I think that means the Apple is out, but then Iguess my question is, how can I connect the x360 to the Dell and get 1080i (other than DVI)?

vga does do 1080i, vga can do up to about 2000x1600 (approx).

I just read somewhere that VGA isnt true 1080i HD, but component is, so I could connect the mini via DVI (and I could display it at 1920x1200) and then connect the 360 via component and get 1080i HD (IE 1920x1200) and take full advantage of the resolution and not have to switch cables or anything, I'd just need some speakers for the xbox that use the RCA inputs

yes, and btw my ibook can do up to 1920x1440, their are applications that allow you to do custom resolutions so you can set it to 1920x1200 or whatever, so you can just get a 2004FPW and hook it up, also as for the 360, some company is making a dvi adapter, should be out soon.

edit: as for the component inputs the dell just had reular component only for 480P, you'd need to hook the 360 up via vga or DVI for HD.

well, I will def use the DVI on the Dell for the mini, and I've read places that you can do 1080i on the 24" Dell w/ component, I've seen a pic of someone doing it...
    I dont want a 30" it's gonna be too much $$, and I want at least 23"/24"

the differences btwn the dell and apple displays are:
    1) price $300 less for dell (23"/24" model comparison)
    2) in-connections: apple has dvi, dell has dvi, vga, component, composite
    3) look, apple totally kicks dells ugly ass here.

however, i don't know if I could justify $300 (to myself let alone the lady) for a nicer form factor, especially not if it would mean moving cables all the time.

<edit>btw, edu price on the dell 24 is $959.20, free shipping</edit>

The Dell monitor has lots of things going for it...the only reason to buy an Apple is that it would match a G5 in appearance, which is not reason enough for me.

well I would be using it with a mac mini anyways... but could someone tell me if the 24" Dell will show 1080i through component? If it wont, then I'm not going to get it

I don't have an answer about component cables. Why, though, would you hassle with an Apple display where you would have to be changing cables constantly? The Dell has VGA and DVI. Hook the Xbox up with VGA and the mini up with DVI. Is there something wrong with this setup?

Thanks a lot velocity! so now I know I can run the 360 at 1080i via component :D and then I can use DVI for a computer.. now the question is, will the 32MB 9200 in the mini be able to drive that LCD? apple says it can do 1920x1200, but will that run well at all?
