and for P2715Q?
I found my 2013 rMBP and 2012 Mac Mini did not perform close to 60hz at the 52hz setting, I only noticed it ran much hotter at 52hz. The performance was closer to 30hz than 60 using switchresX. Running the 2016 MBP on a 4k screen at 60hz I can absolutely see the difference.
Received my P2715Q today and connected it to a MacBook Pro 15" mid-2014 with the supplied mini-DP to DP cable and was rewarded with an instant 27" of crisp retina goodness. Recommended!

3840 x 2160 at 60HzWhat resolution do you run on?
Can anyone tell me if the 2015 model with the AMD Radeon R9 M370X can adequately power dual 4k @ 60hz plus the retina screen? Does it run hot? Any performance issues? Any lag switching screens?
So I finally connected the P2715Q to my late 2016 MPB Pro 13" TB. The default 4K resolution is clearly 3840-by-2160, but with that enabled, no way I can ever read anything on the screen. So my question is: how can I still run a 4K like resolution and still have decent font size? I keep hearing about HiDPI mode, but not sure what it means really, in terms of resolution.
Gotcha. So I guess if I go with the larger font, 2560 x 1440, this will definitely not be 4K or retina. At the highest res, it's impossible to read the text on the screen. So I have to wonder what's the point of the 4K resolutions? Other than watching movies and working in Photoshop.Go to the Displays system preference. Hold the Option key while you click on the "Scaled" button. All your resolution choices will be there.

I have a question:Wrong. HiDPI uses all the pixels. Here is more info: Retina Display - Wikipedia, Enable HiDPI Display Modes in Mac OS X Lion with Quartz Debug
2560x1440 scaled on my P2715Q looks better than 2560x1600 native on my old Dell 30" because of HiDPI. Not just for videos or Photoshop, for everything.

I have a question:
I own one of those "wrong" 4K 27"'monitors, and like most people I run it scaled at 1440p because that's the most sensible font size for 27" in my opinion.
When the monitor is running scaled at 1440p, does it still behave like its native 4K with respect to desktop background and photos? So, if I use a 4K photo as background, does it get rendered in 1440p?
Hope this makes sense.
Good thread. I purchased a 2016 15" tb model w/ the Radeon 460 but am having lots of issues not to mention ~3-3.5 hr battery life. Seriously debating returning this.

I currently have two LG - 27" IPS LED 4K UHD FreeSync Monitors that I'm running at the equivalent of 2560x1440 with my 2016 tb, plus the retina screen. The 2016 tb does seem to power these really well. I will be using this setup 90% of the time.
So frustrating that I can't find any solid info from Apple docs or support. Thanks!
You didn't look hard enough Using 4K displays, 5K displays, and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac.
Hi guys, can I run either of these monitors at 2560x1440 and have the text look crisp?
2 years ago, I bought a new 2415q before and the text most certainly did not look crisp. Only 1920x1080p looked crisp and that's it. I abandoned it, figuring that once again only an Apple monitor would scale "correctly" and without issues.
What do I mean? On a 21.5" 4k iMac, I can scale anywhere from 1920x1080p to 2560x1440 and it all looks retina to me.
Have things improved over the last 2 years, either with Sierra or the hardware?
Second display arrived today, spent a good few minutes checking both and they seem to be dead pixel free!
With regards to my 2014 MBPr 15" i7 running both monitors I can also confirm that they can run the internal display at the maximum resolution including both external displays at full resolution 60Hz absolutely fine!
Now debating if I should order a TB2 PCIe enclosure, I have a bad feeling with this introduced into the mix that both displays won't work at 60Hz!
Haha but I still don't know the answer!!.. and I gave up trying. Nowhere does it say two 4k monitors at 60hz. All it says under MST, which is pretty vague is: "If you use a 60Hz MST display with the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with AMD Radeon R9 M370X graphics card or iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), only one additional Thunderbolt display can be supported."
Other Apple documentation says only one 4k monitor is supported at 60hz, and their genius bar told me the AMD Radeon R9 M370X rMBP does not support dual 4k at 60hz, even though people here seem to do it.
Still confused.
