Demystifying the iTunes EQ

    Raise your hands if you needed help "demystifying" the EQ, and if you did, if terms like "10-band linear equalizer" helped remove said myst.

    How can the article NOT mention the one vital thing you need to know abot iTunes EQ?

    You MUST lower the pre-amp below 0 just as far as the highest band is set above 0. Otherwise you will get digital clipping that sounds awful at certain loud passages. And I'm not one with great ears or equipment either. (Why doesn't Apple lower the pre-amp in its presets?)

    Likewise you must turn off Soundcheck and Sound Enhancer--they clip too.

    Hence why these things are useless to me.

    I don't think that the article demystifies the iTunes EQ as it claims. At that task it does rather poorly. However, it does nicely demystify 10-band equalizers, something I was certainly in need of. With the addition of the the comments in this thread, I do now completely understand the iTunes EQ in ways that I didn't before.
