German carrier Deutsche Telekom is planning to lure new customers by offering six months of Apple Music service for free, reports iPhone-ticker.de [Google Translate]. Aimed at customers who have not yet tried Apple Music, the offer will be announced at IFA in Berlin, set to take place from September 2 to September 7.

According to the report, new Apple Music subscribers on Deutsche Telekom will get the standard three-month free trial and then an additional three months of service paid for by the carrier.

Following the conclusion of the six month trial period, customers will be able to continue their subscriptions and pay for them via their personal phone bill, making it easier to maintain a subscription. It is not known if Deutsche Telekom will only be covering individual subscriptions or if customers are also eligible for family plans.

For its Apple Music service, Apple offers extended three month free trial periods in an effort to get people accustomed to using the service, a longer trial period than the one month offered by most streaming services. Apple's strategy has been somewhat successful, and as of June 2016, Apple Music had more than 15 million paying subscribers.

More of the same strategies...
Like here in Holland with KPN you get Spotify for free, etc.

It's becoming an eat or be eaten type of market, IMHO.

Half a year of free access to Apple Music is quite a bit. I wish Apple themselves would offer different lengths of subscription such as a 'yearly' option that would be a bit cheaper in the long run.

Vodafone in the UK have a similar deal with Spotify although it can last 12 months depending on which deal you take

3 months cost $30. The telecom might charge more than that in the long run. Hate that kind of deal. Time flies.

If you didn't like the service after the 6 months, there's nothing stopping you from canceling the (music) service.

I highly doubt that Deutsche Telekom would charge more than that, unless Apple and its competitors charge "more than that."

A completely useless offer as Deutsche Telekom is very expensive and 4G data allowance is laughable. Germany in general has very poor offerings when it comes to data.

exactly. you get charged a lot more than 6 bucks for the data service. and remember, they own TMUS, the anti-carrier. the wanted to sell it since years, yet no comparable plans are offered in europe. they own the majority of shares in mobile operators in 13 different EU countries, lots of them called T-mobile (austria, netherlands, poland, whatever), but there are roaming fees if you use the "other" tmobile's service while you travel abroad. pathetic. even vodafone managed to get this right.

Exactly.

I also wish Apple would bundle various services together at a discount.

Imagine paying $100 for a year of Apple Music and a year of extra iCloud storage.

Surely Apple has some wiggle-room in their margins to allow for bundled discounts.

On a semi-related sidenote... I feel that Google handed Apple their butt with the latest Google Photos ad.

Apple should offer their 50GB iCloud plan to everyone for FREE... and offer even more storage included with an Apple Music subscription.
