I have to admit the my MacBook Pro's LCD does seem a little washed out under the regular "Color LCD" profile. What has anyone done to make it look more prestine?

I've been messing with the calibration any my setting the Color LCD profile to TV Gamma - the colors look less washed out.

I've calibrated every mac i've owned except the first.....and that was because i didn't know any better.

To calibrate, i usually just move sliders around in Expert Mode till i see what i like and i'm comfortable with.

For software calibration, try SUpercal - it's easier to use than Apple's built-in calibration. Otherwise, hardware calibration is more precise, and more expensive : )

is there anything that could actually take away the 'sparkly/grainy' display that appears on white backgrounds?

Sorry, no. That's a hardware problem that can't be fixed, save for changing the display for a different model.

Has anyone tried calling Apple Care to get their display fixed? Is Apple going to issue a 'recall'/repair?

These are the displays they are using right now so there's nothing they can do except hope that they will change their display supplier and exchange the displays of dissatisfied customers...

Buy a Pantone Huey, for 80-100 bucks it does a far superior calibration than you can do with your eye. It is not perfect the monaco system is better, but the price is right for the average consumer.
