Disappearing world: Global warming claims tropical island

    It does matter how it happened though. This area is part of the Ganges delta, where the erosion from changing river courses has been a big concern since at least the 1960s.

    Problems with the Independent article include the notion that this is a recent problem (it isn't, it's been ongoing), and that these islands simply disappeared under higher water (they didn't, they were washed away by the currents).

    There is an actual concern about water levels. People have been trying to figure out if the river erosion is being accelerated, and if higher water at the mouth is contributing.

    That area really is worth worrying about, there is some really special stuff there. But "overnight shocker" stories about long-term problems that really need to be understood and solved don't help a lot.
