With the lid closed and apple rotated the right way, there is a horizontal semi-transparent black line (~1/4 inch thick), starting ~1.25 inches from the bottom left, and is ~3 inches long. I've tried using glass cleaner but I don't think it is dirt. I wasn't sure about using other types of cleaners (like 409) because I didn't want to damage the plastic.

Anyone else seen or heard of this? I'd take picture but the wife has the digital camera.

Does it look like it is on the surface, or beneath it? If it looks like it is beneath the surface then no cleaners will be able to get them off.

Yeah I think it is beneath the surface. Any idea what it could be? It doesn't seem to affect the screen so it is probably not worth complaining to Apple.

I also have this, but it's also a pale yellow. I have it underneath as well (all streaked and 100% noticeable) . When my macbook went in to be sorted for RSS I asked them about it, it's not covered under the warranty apparently.

Ok this may sound bizarre, but if the black line is what i think i is, get some whitening toothpaste and rub into the mark, then clean residue with damp cloth, keep doing this till mark has been removed.
My white macbook had a load of black marks on it and it worked. My baby looked new again....

    How do you store it?

Mine is stored in a bag that is red inside.

The red is rubbing off onto the MacBook (seriously). The corners of my MacBook are pink, and there are bands of red across the top (display case) of it too. Ah well.

Are you using an Incase bag?

Are Incase bags bad? I'm using one on my macbook and it seems I'm getting a little bit of black onto the top of my macbook. Is this common?

I have the lines on the bottom of my case. I took it into the Apple store and they told me it was not covered. He said it was mostly likely my case or desk where I use it. I use an STM case and do not put it anywhere with that type of pattern. No luck on my end yet. Let us know if you find some kind of fix. Oh and they look like they are under the clear case. Almost like its coming from the inside.

    Just an FYI:

Smoke from ciggaretes can cause a "yellowing" change in White products. This does not relate to your problem; but just friendly information.

No, just some generic bag that has a padded "laptop" compartment. Theres a couple of files in there and lots of loose paper, along with mouses, DVD's, CD's etc. It's pretty full

Don't know. I have a red one but there's no staining.

I am using one. I put it in the same way everytime. But I noticed the line a few days after I got my MacBook but before I purchased the Incase. I will try the toothpaste trick.
