I have the MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 ( 7,1 ) which I appreciate a lot, mainly due to it´s quality hardware build. I use it since day one and 95 - 99 % under Windows OS, it is my daily driver for 5 years now. However, the day will come when I will upgrade to newer hardware.
Is it still given that also newer MacBook Pro´s ( 2014, 2015 ) need to run Windows ( BootCamp ) using the Apple BIOS emulation ? I know that Windows on Apples can be installed in EFI mode but this does not work without compromising the functionality ( e.g. graphics drivers, sleep mode ). Furthermore, Apple´s EFI implementation seems to be quite proprietary and outdated ( EFI 1.1 vs. EFI 2.0 or newer ).
When I buy a new or refurbished laptop for $1500 - $2500 I want to run the OS of my choice / for my needs without any manufacturer restrictions. Apple made this possible lately ?
