Simple question: To register as a developer and the publish apps to the app store - is having an iPhone a requirement? I know it's best to have one because you can test it out on the actual device and hook it up to instruments - but is it needed?

No, there is no hard requirement, but you'll have absolutely no idea how the software will perform on a real device if you do all your testing on a Mac. The phone can perform much, much slower than the simulator does on a Mac...

Thanks for the quick reply! Can you not use ad-hoc distribution to test on someone else's iPhone?

Probably best to just eBay a cheap iPod Touch, unless the app is phone related of course in which case you will need an iPhone.

If you have a friend willing to let you do that you could just add their phone to your developer account and provision it for testing...

Yeah, that will be ideal - thanks :)

Another quickie, how much does it cost in the UK? I know it's $99 in the US but I've done an online search and can't find the UK price?
