So do y'all keep your docks hidden or visible? What's the reason?

I just turned mine off because I wanted to see how it looked. Right now, I'm likin' the full-screen Safari and the big iTunes and iPhoto windows but I also like how the dock balances out the screen. Not sure how I'm gonna keep it. What's your take?

FWIW, I'm on a 15" MBP so screen space is not limited (like a 12" PB or 13" MB) but it's certainly not as plentiful as a 17" MBP or 24" iMac and certainly not a 30" ACD.

I'm on a 12" iBook so my dock is hidden to give me more vertical screen real estate.

I have a macbook. I like my dock hidden(just like the ugly taskbar) i like them hidden because i hardly ever use the finder button and i always press F12 for dashboard and i use spotlight to launch apps but sometimes i use the dock to launch also. i have an app called mega zoom( i think thats what its called) which fully maximizes the screen and with the dock hidden, it is full screen..
Just my preference but i really do like it hidden.

I keep my dock hidden and make it appear when I hover the mouse point near the dock area. I don't want the dock keep on all the time as it is distracting.

I hope Apple has one more control function for Dock: timer setting before the dock appear when you move the mouse around the dock area. Sometimes, I move my mouse near dock areas while using a certain app, without any intention of activating the appearance of dock; but, dock appears because I move my mouse there. I want to delay this appearance by 3 to 5 seconds after I move my mouse there.

I'm on a 15" screen, which is really too small for surfing the internet, so I keep hiding on. I'd prefer a bigger screen and having it visible all the time, though. Maybe if I get a 20" iMac..

hidden on both computers. Just prefer it that way for more actual screen real-estate

Me too! I loves me nekkid and minimalist at one point.

But it was a bit too frosty for me, so I turned Dock hiding off and turned on Menubars, again. Now I am a happy summer camper. :)

Hadn't really thought about this much and just kept it shown the whole time.

But I just turned it off cuz now I figure it will help me remember to use cmd-tab and exposé a lot more if I don't have the dock down there like I pair of training wheels.

my dock is hidden. i like having my browser pages open to the maximum height, and it just wouldn't look right if the webpage and dock overlapped.

I keep mine visible because I like to see what's running. When I go into Aperture or some other app that I want full screen, cmd-opt-d is easy enough to toggle.

On my 12'' PowerBook I used dock hiding because the screen was so small, but for my desktop computer I hate dock hiding.

On my powerbook 15" 1.25ghz i have it always on, i've orderd a new macbook... not sure what it's going to be

for screen real estate i use desktop manager, using APPLE -> and APPLE <- i switch in a cubelike manor between 3 desktops, one main desktop, one web surfing and a mail desktop... works wicked!!

    for those interested: http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/

(i cut out all the visuals, this keeps everything tidy and just use apple arrow to switch)

Hidden and medium magnification. I HATE the look of dock setups in Apple stores that are visible and have no magnification. Uh.. reminds me of OS 10.1.
