I stopped at an Apple Store in Los Angeles because I am saving to make the switch and I sat down for the workshop on GarageBand. I had no idea what the program did so I thought it was great. I learned more in an hour that I ever would have at home by myself.

I am actually going back this morning so I can a)buy myself an iPod mini and b) sit down and learn at an iLife workshop. They're very useful for a PC user like myself.

Just wanted to thank the Apple Stores if they happen to read these boards.

Well, since Apple Store employees can be fired for posting on rumor sites, the chances of this are kinda slim.

That said, glad to hear the workshops are so helpful. The current rumor is that many of the Apple Store theaters are going to be remodeled to be in line with the "studio" concept present at a couple of Apple stores that allows more interactive demonstrations.

I think they're most useful for potential switchers or people who haven't yet sat down to try out that particular app before. Having said that, I've sat in on a few while I was passing or waiting for someone and there's generally a few tips that can come in useful. How many and how useful often depend on who is doing the demo... and on how many questions the audience ask.

I picked up a few Automator tips last time that gave me a better understanding of how to structure a process and that was in the generic 'Tiger' presentation.

You can always learn a few neat things, but I generally haven't liked them - good for new users - and I end up spending money.

I've walked into an apple store as a workshop was going on. I overheard one about 'starting in digital video' and such... it was all full of old people who seemed very intrigued by the presentation, lol

i dont know why, but i always end up in the store when they're doing a really boooring presentation (well, boring to me, im sure it's interesting for others) on something like logic pro or dvd studio pro.

i always feel that a switcher coming upstairs and seeing that would kinda put them off, because they tend to think the whole os is confusing. perhaps they should re-schedule these or something.

oh, and also, i think they should do another switch at six. i see a lot of people coming in the store at lunchtime, so this would be a great time to run switch-at-12 or whatever. certainly better than something people are going to see and then walk straight away from..

I keep saying that I'm going to attend one of the workshops, but haven't. Sadly my local Apple Store doesn't have a theater. So a class is done at one of the computers. To me the learning would be less conducive. I do better at learning when it's also hands on.

So why would that stop them reading a rumor site?

I get more info out of the online "pro" level video seminars Apple has.
