Does this logo make you want to get dirty?

    Hi!

I was asked by a Motocross/Supercross racetrack called DirtPark to create their logo. After about a dozen variations we ended up with this logo.
After all these alterations I think I lost my sense of judgement. I need a fresh opinion whether this can stand for a motocross track?
    Any opinion welcome.

I'm going to make a full color version and also a smaller version without the text.

    Thank you,
    Balint

I like it, generally. My observations:
    • I can't really see the point of 'SINCE 2008' - wow, you mean you've been going a WHOLE TWO YEARS?!!
    • Maybe this is something you've already experimented with, but the circular motif on the back would perhaps be better if it was made to look more like a motocross tyre/wheel, without getting too fussy of course. Perhaps it would work, perhaps not. As it is, the logo says 'motorsport' but not 'motocross' to me.
    That's my opinion.

    Thank you for the comments.

I agree with you on all the points! (and i'm not even a spam bot :) )

    - The clients insists to have the "since 2008" text on the logo. His argument is that all other tracks have it too. Anyway I'm going to tell him that so far 100% of the people I asked told me that it's too early to say that.

    - I did create a version with knobs, here it is. Finally I ditched it, somehow it looked less professional.

There is no reason to have "Since 2008." It does nothing to add to the image of the brand. All it says is "We are a new company," which is not exactly something to brand yourself as.

Maybe in 2018 they can add that.

I like the second version better. I've seen companies putting "since yyyy" even if they've been open for only a couple years. I'd leave it there to balance the logo.

I also like the second version and fully agree on the "since 2008". Although it sounds like a non-negotiable request form the client, it may be worth trying to convince or suggest to them the reason(s) why it is redundant and really void at this point. I would say at the very minimum, 10 years before adding a "since XXXXX" statement. Just my opinion based on observations. Perhaps suggesting to them what they would think if Twitter tagged its logo "Since 2007" under it...worst case scenario, they say "that would be great!"...lol...

    Good job though.

Why not modify the DP to be one continuous line. If you did that, it would also look like a motocross track. The challenge in that is making the "DP" remain legible.

I agree. You're nearly there now. I'd find some way to make that work.

And while I like the idea of knobs, the knobs are too big. They should look more like the knobs found in motocross... and less like a tractor tire.

Cool, thanks for all the advice!

    - About the "since..." text: I can replace it with "Dirtpark" text so it stays balanced. I'll try to convience the client.

    - I will also make the knobs smaller, maybe more dense as well. Still I have the feeling that somehow the first logo would last longer, while you would get bored of the second one more quickly. Once the logo is approved we'll have to put it everywhere (clothing, cars, badges, etc.).
I think the first logo would be still interesting to look at even after a couple a years.
Anyway the reason I posted was because I felt that something was still missing from the logo. Maybe I was just looking at it for too long...

Thanks again for the comments. I'll post the updated logo soon, right now I have to drive 1400 kms across Europe!

Ok, finally I created one with a slightly different layout. What do you think?

To be honest, I do not like your last version.
Especially there are some elemtens, that are not needed, like the squares under the DP.
And than, there are to many lines (lineouts) around the thing.

Your second version (above) was much better, than this.

The second version you had, with the tire treads, was much more visually appealing. The treads also help it jump out thematically as a race track logo. The "Since 2008" definitely screams "Hey, we're a new company", but if that's what the client wants...

The Front of the P part of the logo needs to pitch forward at the same angle as the bounding box to maintain the kinetic of the forward motion. Smaller tyre treads as well

Nice. Perhaps make DP into one continuous line, like a racetrack, or if you leave it the way it is, perhaps slant it to give a sense of speed.

I like the second one with the tire in the logo! Also, if they insist on having 2008 in there, maybe you could change it to est. 2008. I think it's a little more classy and doesn't make it sound like they are bragging about 2 years of being open.
