Barefeats.com is reporting up to at 42% speed gain for Doom 3 in Tiger compared to Panther:
    Doom 3 Tiger v. Panther

Seems to be related to "system math functions."

I just ran a time demo of Doom 3 on my PB (see sig). I got no improvement at all. With the first time demo I got a .2 fps decrease from 10.3.9 and a .3 fps increase in the second time demo.

Let's hope OpenGL is updated soon.

Actually , the machines which will benefit from Tiger's improvement in game performance, are G5 machines. We can't expect doom 3 to run better into low or mid- end hardware

    Not so fast

It seems that it was a mix-up. There is a speed bosst, but not nearly so great.

From barefeats: "*We goofed on the initial Doom test posting. Apparently, the ATI Displays "Vertical Sync OFF" override was used under Tiger but not under Panther -- making Tiger seem much faster than it really was."

    Figures :(

But, they're still reporting 19.2%, which alone is impressive :)

Agreed. A 20% gain just from a new OS is better than the recent processer speed updates ;)

So Tiger is basically like a new computer!
