DOS FORMATTED FIREWIRE-HOW CAN I ERASE?

    HAVING A PROBLEM...I RECIEVED A FIREWIRE DRIVE ..IN WHICH SOME BOZO DIDNT ERASE THE DISK(INITIALIZE TO MAC OS EXTENDED) BEFORE TRANSFERRING THE FILES TO IT..SO I GOT A DRIVE WITH A BUNCH OF UNREADABLE FILES ON IT.. I HAD BACK UPS OF THE FILES ON DVD AND I WANT TO TRANSFER THEM TO THE FIREWIRE , BUT MY MAC(G4 SINGLE 1.25 , 9.2.2) WONT ERASE THE DISC..IT WILL IT ERASE IT BUT THE ONLY OPTION IS A DOS FORMATTING...HOW IN THE HELL DO I FIX THIS...I WANT TO FORMAT THE DRIVE IN MAC OS EXTENDED.. I HAVE TRIED A BUNCH OF DISK TOOLS AND WHAT HAVE YA BUT NO LUCK.SAYS ITS AN UNREADABLE FORMAT.I KNOW THESE FIREWIRE DRIVES ARE COMPATABLE BECAUSE I HAVE USED THEM BEFORE....HOPING SOMEONE HAS THE ANSWER...

    Do you have Mac OS X installed on that Mac? If you do, boot into it, open Disk Utility, and do the format from there. You might not be able to use it in Mac OS 9 unless you tell it to install the Mac OS 9 drivers...but I can't find that option in my Disk Utility for some reason.
