The market hasn't seen 11,000 since before 9/11.

    From cnn.com:

While you're celebrating, how about going out an buying a new (American) car? Michigan needs the boost in its economy.

    :D

I'd love a new Caddy. Maybe when I get a job after graduating in May. With these gas prices coming down, I'll be able to afford gas for an SUV!!! Those Escalades are nice!

You know, the DOW was this high back in March, and more or less this high back in January. And was above 10700 in February and March 2004.

Not exactly a booming market recently.

Nah, they're gas hogs. I was thinking along the lines of a Focus or Aveo. Heck, you could afford 2 or 3 for the price of an Escalade (they're ugly anyway).

Buy a Chrysler Crossfire convertible, or a Ford Thunderbird. If you're going American, at least be sexy about it. :)

I'm happy, I have a small portfolio. But a lot of it is invested in UK and European stocks. I see a better economic future there thanks to EU enlargement. As an example, since 9/11, the UK stock market has gained +60%, the French stock market +33%, and the Netherlands +11%, in dollar terms. Of course, if I was really smart, I would have invested in the Canadian market, which is up +90%, or the Mexican market, which is up +130%. By the way, a lot of this is because of the depreciation of the dollar in the past few years.

Funny, I was also thinking about this thread this morning as the market opened lower on the last trading day of the year, and still quite a long way from the non-magical 11,000 number.

Well, the economy is doing a little better. But if we weren't supposed to blame Bush for the economy being bad, why would I be happy with his administration if it's doing good?

Oh, and good news isn't news.
