I have a dual screen with my macbook.. and I want to close my macbook and use the attached screen. When i close my macbook it goes to sleep and turn off both monitors. I have the dock and apple bar on the other screen. How do i make the macbook able to shut and just use the secind screen with the macbook shut?

All-in-all, i want to close the macbook and use the other screen. How is this possible?

wake the laptop with the lid closed (by attaching the 2nd monitor or clicking the mouse)

    1) Once you close the notebook, wake it back up using the keyboard, mouse, or remote (if you are using bluetooth, then make sure the setting in energy settings that says whether or not bluetooth devices are allowed to wake the device is checked).

    2) Download a program like Doze or Sleepless to prevent it from falling asleep if (1) is somehow not acceptable.

you can also use that little remote that came with the macbook, just click play and it should wake up.

I did it again just now to see if it worked and it did, i don't have it pluged inot an external screen though, but it should work just the same.

It wakes up, but then goes back to sleep like 10 seconds later.

It sounds like your Extending your desktop onto the other screen rather than having the other monitor Mirror your macbook screen, so maybe you have to switch to mirror mode by hitting F7 before you shut your macbook lid.

Maybe when the desktop is Extended onto the monitor the computer sees it as just a continuation of the macbook screen rather than a separate monitor.

Keep in mind that you can't use your notebook in clamshell mode if you don't have the power adapter connected.
