I am looking for a simple one click solution to a problem. My younger brother is careless with dvds and usually brings them back scratched up and nicked. So instead of giving him the originals I want to make a copy. I'm relatively new to macs so I dont have an idea as to what I would need. An application where I put the original dvd and make a copy of it with a single click would be nice, any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!:)

I use an app called MacTheRipper which can be found at Macupdate or Versiontracker, to ripp from encoded DVD's. I then use Popcorn which is about 50 bucks to compress and burn the Video TS file to DVD. This is not a one click solution, but it works and is well worth the investment when considering the cost of a new DVD!

I just wouldn't loan my DVDs to anybody I know who's going to knowingly scratch them up. Either they respect my property or they don't get access to it.

    For me it's:

    Step 1: MacTheRipper - rip
    Step 2: DVD2One - compress
    Step 3: Toast - burn

I have heard that the new version of toast (7) can compress and burn video TS folders - thus eliminating the need for DVD2One or Popcorn. Haven't tried it yet though.

Just the way I do it. It's harder to get out of bed than use this method ;)

most simple and cheapest way to back up dvd's is:

    mac the ripper (decrypt)
    popcorn (compress and burn)

Is Handbrake a reasonable alternative to either Popcorn or DVD2One for the compression step?

I totally forgot about this software. I used it quite awhile ago, version 1 I think, and I never could get it to work, whole bunch of coasters. I imagine they have things running a bit more smoothly with version 4.

Same with me, I used it back in the 1.0 days and it never worked, I would give it a try now at version 4.
