    I swear, paying this much for a practically 5 year old OS is insane. And an upgrade version as well.

    Believe it or not, there's a number of situations where one needs a valid license for Microsoft 98. Think of developing software that needs to run on 98, think of people running old machines, think of people using Virtual PC. It's hard to get, that's why the price is so high. I would have bought a license myself if they were cheaper.
