I've been patiently awaiting a set-top style box that would bridge the gap between my TV and Mac. I thought Apple may release one during Macworld but no such luck. I was fairly impressed by the Gateway Windows media edition and want the same features for my Mac.
Idealy it would have Tivo style recording with commercial editing features (without having to pay a monthly fee which I refuse to do) and the ability to view photo albums, stream MP3's and watch videos.

elGato's units seem to do this but I want to find out more before I plunk down $500+ on their 2 units.

Has anyone purchased one? Do they like it? Any word on an Apple device that would work with iLife?

I have the usb Eyetv and it works great. I am kinda bummed that they just came out with the firewire one, though, since it means that I will probably sell mine and upgrade. Just can't seem to settle for less.

The EyeTV is fine for recreative use, but if you want high quality, look at the Formac product or the new EyeTv 200,300,400.

The EyeTv is already a great product since you can program it to record anything thansk to TitanTv so I can only guess that the new version will be even better thanks to the FW cable and MPEG2 encoding.

I have a few friends who are at the Macworld expo right now and I asked them to check it out. I will give you more info when the feed me back.

Also, be prepared to buy a new external HD to stock all these tv shows...
