Allow me to convey my warmest congratulations to His Imperial Majesty on the happy occasion of his birthday.

Of equal importance, may you thoroughly enjoy the national holiday which marks this august occasion.

The current occupant of the Chrysanthemum Throne belongs to a family that has either ruled Japan, or acted in a ceremonial role, for nearly 2700 years.

The length of recorded Japanese history is staggering to anyone who thinks a century is a long time. Three centuries before the Vikings first bumped into North America a history book was written in Japan that summarized Japanese history over the past 15 centuries.
