load your restore discs from apple and choose to Erase and Install MAC OS. there are advanced or custom options that you can choose to "Zero" the drive which means it will completely erase all information on the drive. this might take a while, but you are secure then.

I'm sorry to resurrect this again, but I need to wipe another PowerBook. I did the last one successfully, but this second one I need to wipe doesn't have its restore disks anymore. I upgraded it to Leopard a little over a year ago, so can I just use my Leopard upgrade disk?
