Probably been asked many times before, but anyone been in a car crash? I ask because I was just involved in a 40mph head on smash and my car was written off. I cannot use my left hand at the moment so excuse my typing,:p. but everyone was okay, but both cars were destroyed. My bro was driving and the floor was buckled under his feet along with the roof above him. windscreen completely gone and you can see into the engine through the dashboard. wish i took some pics as it was nasty.

Not sure of the relevance here, but what the hey.

Three major, scores of minor, I'm a driving clutz and haven't any attention span behind the wheel, a bad combination. Only two have sent me to the hospital with minor things.

What was your accident? By which was it one car (just you) or you and a few cars, your fault, etc. Details?

Sorry about your hand, something like that would kill 1/2 my sex life.

rolled my truck several times into a ditch, passed out, truck caught fire but went out on it's own quickly. managed to crawl out upside down, worst part was having to walk like 2 miles to find help. my back suffered compression fractures and i have chronic back pain to this day.

it's what i get for being an idiot...

some people slammed on their brakes on the highway and i was the last person in the close line and scooted into the person in front of me. no one was hurt but it really sucked. it was pretty crazy since there is really no reason to stop on that highway like that and i havent seen anyone have to do it in the many many years i have seen people drive on as wel as the year i have been driving. hopefully i can keep my new car from doing that, which is why i plan on installing brembo brakes onto my car, that should help alot.

Well, it was mine and my brothers' peugeout 205. A bit of an old wreck but now it is no more.

Wen straight into an oncoming car at 40 mph (both cars doing that speed). The Other car was like a 92 VW Golf GTi. My 89 205 is screwed. The floor under th drivers feet is bent up and the roof is bent down. I;m sitting here with a home-made sling and drugged up to the eye balls.

everyone else was fine. I'm not sure how it happened other than it was round a bend and we hit square head into each others front. his back wheel ended up up the bank a little and we ended up sideways on the road. You can see through under the windscreen into the engine and the doors on the right are jammed shut cos that side of the cab has been shortened by about 7 inches.

i didn't think to get any pictures as i was in shock. If i had not worn a seat belt or we were going 5 mph quicker i would almost certainly be dead or in much worse shape. Yes it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me.

yes I have, two actually. The first was during the big hurricane (FL) a few years ago, I was on 75 when the trailer of some truck kinda swerved into my lane and bumped me, I was in the far left lane so I ended up going into the median which was very slick because of all the ran, I couldn't stop and ended up ramming into some dead trees. I was alone and luckily was not hurt, I don't remember the impact but when I came to my window was shattered and my side window had a tree limb through it, pretty close to my head. I came out with only a few cuts and scratches due to the glass. Luckily two people stopped, one to help and the other only stopped because when the trailer hit me a piece of my car flew off and hit his beemer....that was bad enough but I was alone as I said and under 21 so when the tow truck dropped me off in Sarasota I was stranded, I had to wander up and down in the rain to find a hotel/motel and almost all of them were fully occupied due to the hurricane and when I finally found one that had an available bed they wouldnt give it to me because of my age, my mom ended up "persuading" to otherwise in the end but it was the worst room I have ever been in, didnt matter much though because it was dry and had a bed. I had to stay there most of the night until someone could come pick me up and take me home.

    2nd.

My other one was in town, I was traveling with my then girlfriend down 41 which in three lanes. I was in the far right lane when a cab driver who didnt have his lights on and apparently wasnt paying attention tried to make a u-turn from the opposite lane and side swiped me (I think that is the appropriate term) luckily my girlfriend nor I were hurt and neither was the cab driver, but my car was pretty messed up in the front. The man driving the cab seemed way too old to be driving especially for a living and the cop gave him the blame and rightfully so.

I've been in only one accident. I was driving down a fairly large, fast (45mph) 5 lane street, and this car in front of me slows down to turn into a parking lot. I think about changing lanes to go around him, but the guy on the motorcycle behind me already did it, and I just decided to slow down behind the guy turning. Well, he turned into the parking lot, and I started to speed up, when this lady in a Ford F-150 King Ranch Edition pickup pulls out of the same entrance of the parking lot, and T-Bones me. Luckily, there was nobody in the lane to the left of me, because I was shoved over quite a bit... I was only going about 15 mph when she hit, and she had just pulled out, so she wasn't going very fast, but I think she gunned it. I was the only person in my car, and she and her daughter were the only people in hers, and nobody was hurt. Well, I wasn't hurt until I got out of the car to see the damage... I was lucky I was in my Suburban, because if I was in my Ford Escort, or my toyota pickup, it could've been a lot worse. Suburban. Built like a tank.

The accident was her fault, but the police didn't give her a ticket, because she was the only witness over 18. Although it was clearly her fault... Of course, her insurance paid the $3000 + in damage...

And what really sucked, was that i had just washed the car that day... You can see in the pictures...

I was in the front seat passenger seat coming home from a ski trip when the car hit a patch of ice, lost traction, and WHAM!, hit a signpost. Smashed in the whole front of a station wagon. If we'd been in a smaller car, it would have been us, not just the car, that was "wrecked". The sign said "Icy".

I sorry to hear about you accident amnesiac1984. A car can be fixed or replaced. The most important thing is that you and your brother are OK! ;)

My accidents have been fender benders. I have always thought that if I was in major accident I'd be in trouble being 6' 8".

Ouch amnesiac1984... cool to hear you're okay though....

You were very lucky, head on's are nasty, and 205's aren't regarded as the strongest of cars, I had an old friend who was abit of a boy racer and had the 205 1.9 GTI, he lost control on a roundabout and ended up in a field, outside of his car, which had been ripped apart and seperated into it's key components.

I've been in 2, the first on the M1 in about 1986 in a Sierra, my dad tried to avoid two cars that swerved into our lane, and basically we smashed into them at quite a high speed, we were very lucky it didn't roll.

The car was totalled, luckily the Sierra was at the time one of the safest cars because of it's advanced crumple zones, had we been in a another car around that time, like a Cavalier or Montego we'd have probably been killed.

The second was in my old VW Beetle in the mid 90's, in the snow, I basically lost control, where by I couldn't steer, nor brake, so I tried to accelerate out of it.... hit a lamp post at I think about 30mph, the lampost made a big V in the front of the car, and spun the car around into a 180 whilst airbourne. Must say though, even though it was an old car, it felt enormously strong.

My brother had a nasty crash a couple of months ago, he was coming off a huge roundabout on the A46, and there was quite a tight bend, some furry little creature ran out in front of him, and his front drivers side tyre blew when he tried to take evasive action, sending the car into a wicked spin and sending him off backwards into a 7ft ditch. Had he gone front ways first into the ditch, he said he doubt he'd have survived.

I personally would have hit the furry creature....

Those sound pretty bad iGav. My pug was gettin on a bit and we we're saying just before that the clutch was about to go, and after spending £261 on MOT and tax about a month ago. (Just the latest in a slew of costly problems) We were thinking of scrapping it next time something went wrong.

So I want a cheap car thats reasonably safe, any ideas from UK members? Cheap, reliable safe and economic to insure and drive.

the same thing happened to me, except I was the car just before the last one. All cars in front of me stopped, I remember barely making it, looking in my rearview mirror and seeing this jeep which was obviously not going to stop in time, thinking "oh $h!t"... my little CRX was no match for a sturdy American steel bumper. But nobody got hurt.

Now wait a minute, iJon, what kind of car did you drive ?

Go find a Rover 214 or 216 SLi, anything on a J-M plate has a Honda 16-valve engine and gearbox, very cheap, very reliable, easy insurance, bit dull.

Just make sure to be the first car next time, which shouldn't be a problem with your type s ;)

I watched MadMax2 last night, great classic movie. I think I am going to buy a big semi-truck, looks like a lot of fun to drive in a road rage... :D

    eh...I can't find the photos...

But my accident was with my '92 Toyota Camry V6. I was driving home with a friend after a night out, and someone who was driving the opposite direction of a one-way street crossed paths with us as we were passing the intersection.

I hit him (Jeep Cherokee) on his side, causing my car to spin counter-clockwise for 30 feet before going through someone's front yard white picket fence.

The airbag smacked me in the face...I thought the car was on fire when I opened my eyes.

$11,000 damage...6 months of physical therapy on my neck...I had the scare of my life.

I've been in a few. The last one was when I tried to pass a semi-truck on a 4 lane road while the roads had some snow on them. I lane changed to the left lane and started to accelerate. I never made it past the rear wheels because all of a sudden my car lost traction and I proceeded to do a 720 degree spin into the ditch.

Luckily no one, including the car, was injured.

I let a friend drive my van home after a High School Basketball game and this was the result. I wasn't hurt, but my friend had to undergo plastic surgery for a scratch he sustained to his eye. He lost control going around a curve and rolled the van...:(
