External HD Problem

I have an 80 gig external firewire HD. Out of nowhere, for some reason the lights on the HD flash red instead of green, and the HD will not pop up on my desktop. Any ideas here? Plus, like 3 of the 5 prongs on the AC adapter end are broke, could that be the problem? But it still lights up...

Could be that you shorted out the power supply enough that it won't power on anymore because of the broken AC adapter.
