    hi all,
ok i have a philips 250Gb usb external HDD, bought new and formatted , set up on my iMac, when using on the Imac on boot up the disk mounts fine. however after a few mins it deactivates and sleeps, this is a problem as it hangs when i try to get information from it.

when on the windows XP machine the HDD remains on all the time.

Is there a control panel or something i can do so that the thing will only power off when i set the mac to sleep?

    Thank you Jah...I'm so Blessed
    The drive dismounts itself?
What is the drive formatted under?
Have you tried running disk repair under disk utility?

Have you tried System Preferences > Energy Saver > uncheck "Put drive to sleep whenever possible"?
