No ***** Eric Schmidt would want Apple to closely integrate more with Google products so they can steal more of our data and make more revenue from all the iOS users.

Fact check.

Apple forbid google from updating Maps, to make their map app look better on release.

We know how that turned out.

:apple:

Thought apple gave up on Gmaps because G refused to allow TbT functionality to apple unless apple started sharing much more customer data with G.

Apple wasn't willing to make this compromise and so decided to go its own way... And in the end, what? G coughed up an app offering TbT.

So which company is the silly Goose here?

Kickstarter!

Journalists job, else just an infomercial benefitting the interviewed party. Dip***** could have easily answered the question without being evasive because their sophomoric non answers were much more telling than if they had simply answered.

I agree 100% as I too live in Texas and Google maps "misled" me to a destination other than the one I desired. Apple maps are WAY better. And I can HEAR Apple's map app and it was not blatantly ripped off Google as most of Google's Android looks like iOS.

Whatever. Apple Maps is a total rip off of Google Maps. Want proof? Roads. Google maps innovated roads, then Apple had to (of course) play catch up and include roads in their app.

Coincidence?

And before that... the old Apple/Google maps didn't have turn-by-turn navigation.

I had to buy MotionX

No solution can be all things to all people...
Sure, but not everyone needs turn-by-turn navigation.
I'd assume that a lot of people in the US do, but in all markets where public transportation is good and well-developed, POI and map accuracy are more important.
Also, I'm not sure how useful tbt navigation is if the map is inaccurate.

True.

But my point was... the old Apple Maps had Google's data... but no turn-by-turn.

The new Apple Maps have turn-by-turn... but questionable data.

In the end... you can get both apps.

I just got a big serving of "integration" on iOS by a non-:apple: player.

Angry Birds Star Wars was "free app of the week" recently. So I got it, and the kids started playing it.
Some time later I happen to check Twitter. Darn app had been tweeting game status without my knowledge or permission! Got to the point my brother emailed me a "uh, you might want to check on this..." note.
Spent a while trying to shut off the tweeting. Without enumerating the litany of conceivable ways...nada.
Finally emailed Rovio (ABSW's maker) about it. They cheerfully admitted it was deeply tied to iOS 6's deeply integrated Twitter support, and the only way to stop the tweeting during gameplay was to fully log out of Twitter from iOS - shutting off any legitimate tweeting in the process (like, say, actually using the Twitter app) of shutting the game up.
Goodbye, Angry Birds Star Wars.

Don't want to imagine what a deep-integration Facebook or Google abusing app might do. Too many apps & websites are already a mis-tap away from divulging all kinds of private information. :apple: is treading dangerously close to the "bundled crapware" that's helping kill Windows.

So, Schmidt steals iOS and makes Android. Lest we forget!
Suckerberg is a tech wannabe. One trick poney.
Ten years out, there will be no Facebook.
I have looked at it. Don't see the worth?
Lots of friends in my phone that I have never even seen (I like real people to rave with) ....

I don't usually post, but the whole Andnoid and Facesuck proliferation is
not for thinking adults. Interestingly, I read teenagers are adopting iOS
in favor of their fragmented devices. Maybe there's hope after all?

I have no problem with cheep people buying cheep devices. This will always be the situation amongst us humans.
However, in the long run, Apple will prevail. Exceptional hardware. User friendly operating system.
As far as cost, you get what you pay for. Seems many people are content to pay for what they get....lol...

You sound like a rich arrogant snob. I would love to know what "cheep people" and "cheap devices" are. Yes, hate on the people that don't like to be told what to do by one company. People who want choice. Of course...what would you know? You are bound by Apple and their exceptional hardware manufactured and/or created by other companies that also supply parts for Android devices....hm... I could go pick up a $50 Android device and still have more functionality than your iPhone ever had or ever will have.

P.S. Neither Google nor Eric Schmidt created Android.

.....Not many people want to have their activity tracked specifically by google.....

Eric Schmidt The Master Of Hypocrisy! :apple::apple::apple:

That's like Apple asking Google to offer iTunes on Android. GG.

Google is like the crazy girl that's trying to make her ex (Apple) jealous by hooking up with her new boyfriend (FB) in public. Gross.

.....The reason Apple made their own maps is that they discovered, painfully, that trusting google was a major mistake, when google turned around and ripped off iOS to make android.....

.....Or google, which refuses to respect anyone's privacy, and is all kinds of closed but wants access to everyone elses' info and platforms?

Remember: "Don't be evil". ;)

Might be too extreme for you, but maybe you could just delete your FB, twitter etc from your phone. I completely deleted my facebook, gmail, twitter and instagram accounts and consolidated my email from 5 accounts to two. I get way less unimportant information on my phone. Makes it a little harder to keep up with people though, but I don't mind. Less interruptions too. I would say overall, my life is better without social networking. I feel much more...clean? free? I don't know how to describe it.

executives from both Google and Facebook said they would like to have deeper and more extensive integration with Apple's iOS -- and both would like to be featured more prominently in the operating system

The executives each went on to say that they would really, really like a pony more than anything in the whole wide world. :D

This is really about the intelligence agencies who took over Facebook years ago and now control Google wanting to infiltrate and dominate Apple. It's inevitable that it will happen given the current chair of Apple's board of directors and the lack of strong leadership at Apple. I sincerely wish that this were not the case.

Apple will never agree to such things...

It's the reason IOS is secure, and stays that way.

Allow Facebook and Google, and soon everyone would want a piece of the action.

Facebook and Google will go nuts,,, it will no longer be the same phone and will no longer be "different"

Yea, this is just getting stupid. Ironic part is that outside of the tech crowd, I don't think anybody knows or cares about 'Chat heads' and I'm a huge FB user. Also, what benefit is there for Apple to allow those 2 guys to integrate even deeper? That's like Apple saying, we want Google to install Safari as the native web browser. Not going to happen.

Google is starting to piss me off more and more. They say 'do no evil' but they are getting more cocky and evil (by spreading their tentacles in everything) as each day goes on.

It's also ironic that the two are sitting next to each other, all warm and fuzzy when the truth is, FB only wants to use Android to fork it and use it for their own gains while Google+ is here to take on Facebook

Yeah FB has been quite open about how they thought about forking Android but decided against it because it would mean they wouldn't get as much exposure.

I think Google has taken over Apple in the public eye as the 'cool' tech company whereas Apple has said and done a lot in the past year but achieved very little. They need to redefine what making a great device is about because at the moment "thinner & lighter" is becoming a bit old.

Personally, I get tired of those idiotic ads that pop up when I am reading an article on my computer. Some of them do not have a close / quit method showing up, so I have to quit the page entirely. Keep those things off my screen.

So why did the Cory person not answer the question - "Kara Swisher: But did you even ask them? Did you even ask Apple if you could put the … Chat Heads on the screen persistently? Or did you not even go there with them?"

Keep those things off my screen.

This shows that Google is threatened by Apple Maps. A major reason to make google maps the default map is to switch users from apple maps to Google (since google maps wouldn't needed to be downloaded).

I never understood the meltdown about Apple maps...they have ALWAYS worked great for me. I live in Texas and go to some "in the middle of nowhere" places and they have done their job for me. Have they led me other places sometimes? Yes, but Google maps have done the same thing.

Same for me but there is NO question it has been bad for a large number of users. And since this is Apple and everything Apple does is expected to work perfect, any imperfection would have a potential media stair and be overblown out of proportion.

Facebook is aggressive enough, they don't need to be integrated any further.

Google Maps I'm on the fence, it is superior to Apple maps, at least currently. I however have no major issues with Apple maps and the app is getting better.

Google didn't make any apps for WP and doesn't support it at all - They don't want to and yet they're begging to get on iOS. Beggars can't be choosers comes to mind...

The comments here make me lolz :D

Typical comment. Insult enemy of Apple just because. Then attempt to make a clever statement.

Like Apple isn't full of BS when they promote their products and discuss how great iOS is.

Why because his name isn't Tim Cook and his "disciples" aren't the :apple: type? I feel the same way of all the sheep of Apple and Google. People have to associate themselves as part of the "family" and will attack the rival, be it the :apple: or little robot, at all costs.

Puhhh leeezzee.

Before I even open this thread I knew what kind of responses I would be seeing from Apple loyalists and Google haters. It's clear Apple has a loyal group of folks fighting for them on the Interwebz.

One reason going Apple/Google sites is annoying. Both have their hardcore loyalists who think they're in the Apple/Google Military or something. They refuse to see the bad in their 'parent brand.' Newsflash...Apple sucks in some ways and Google can suck to.

Exactly!

You would think these guys are getting paid by Apple to stick up for them. Like Apple and them are buddies or something.

Just mindless banter.

I can think of 3 people in my family alone that use their iPads strictly for Facebook. They would love a Facebook integration. Especially my Mom who has a hard time navigating around the friggin thing. If it all just pops in front of her face then its a blessing for her.

If the FB integration comes who cares. I'm sure it comes with an "OFF" option.
