Ok, this is mostly a silly thread, but I'm wondering what kind of beer people prefer. I've been blessed by having several local breweries around for most of my adult life (and my under 21 days too, but that's a different matter). But outside any local breweries that don't sell commercially, what do you drink? Lately my favorite has been anything from the Anderson Valley Brewing Company, out of Mendocino Ca., particularly their Oatmeal Stout. I also like Newcastle (English brown beer) and Red Hook ESB. So what do you drink, if anything? Or do you just hate beer?

If this goes well, I might try a wine thread as well, for those who enjoy the vino it might be nice to get some tips on good stuff at a reasonable price....

I think we had a thread like this recently.

I live near the Old Dominion Brewing Co., in Ashburn, Va. and I'm very fond of their Tuppers Hop Pocket Pils. It's very dry and crisp, much like I imagine Pilsner Urquell would be if it were on tap. I have a keg refrigerator.

Schneider Weisse and Paulaner are both Munich beers. I like almost all Munich beers. You should try some more: Ayinger is nice, Konig Ludwig Dunkels is amazing.

I don't particularly go for beers myself...

Can definitely appreciate a Newcastle Brown ale though... or a Caffery's ;)

My preferred alcoholic beverage of choice however is Bulmers 'Strongbow' Strong, Dry, Cider.... ;) :D

    or me about bourbon.

Though definitely not my favorite by any stretch, I've been in a PBR kinda way this summer. . . I think in the last thread I mentioned Sweet Water IPA and Sweet Water 420 (local Atlanta brewing company) as most likely my favorites with Guinness.

I've tried a lot of beer and still not found one nearly as good as Anchor Steam. Perfect amount of carbonation, perfect taste, no nasty aftertaste at all, a nice color, even the label is cool. I want to take a tour of their brewery (its here in san francisco) and try some of their lesser known beers, like anchor stout. Food network did a piece on them a little while ago, interesting stuff.

Lots of other good beers though. Guiness of course, particularly in a black and tan, steelhead, fat tire, redhook. And I have a special place in my heart for Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Becks? Aren't you from Germany or something? Isn't Becks ranked as highly over in your part of the world as Heineken? :p

    Creemore Springs (its Canadian)
    Leffe Brune
    Hoegaarden
    Anchor Steam Beer
    Boddingtons
    Caffreys
    John Smith's Extra Smooth
    Pilsner Urquell
Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale (baaaaad IPA, but tastes like a great lager)

I just tried Paulaner Weisbier.....its pretty good.

Actually, I'll have just about any type of beer and think its okay.

Mmm Sitting here sipping a Hoegaarden. Nice and cold. Just back from france with a whole load of Belgian Wheat Beer. I love the Channel Tunnel. £35 return (was only in France for a few hours) and only an hours drive from my flat. I can be in France within 2 hours!

    EXTERIOR "BARBARY COAST" -- NIGHT

Frank finally gets to where he's going - a corner bar - and skids to a

    FRANK
Come on. I wancha to meet a frienda mine.
Raymond, get enough beer for Ben too.

    RAYMOND
    Okay Frank.

    FRANK
    (to Jeffrey)
What kinda beer do you like?

    JEFFREY
    (just says it)
    Heineken.

    FRANK
F* THAT S*. PABST BLUE RIBBON!!!

He grabs Jeffrey and pushes him into the bar.

I don't drink, which is good for me from a legal standpoint, eh?

Not that I haven't been offered it on more than a few occassions. Like randomly in my room once by one of my suitemates. Apparently my roommate had a little stock.

At least it means I don't get busted at the local bar, though I can't say the same for some of my other under-aged friends (though less under-aged than me).

Ha! No, it's from a Simpsons episode where Homer can't have any beer.
