Could you indicate when any MacBytes articles are from AppleMatters? Then I would know not to bother clicking the link

First, it's annoying to have to click through the thread to get to the article. But this time, we get to the article and it's referencing an old article. Where is the old article?

Wow. What a waste of my time.

Let me sum all this up before you click on the article to apple matters...

IN 1996, Apple had a bad article written about them. The cover of the mag noted the bad article. The article is not available for reading. The cover is not available for viewing. There is no content here. Move along.

That was definitely the dark days for Apple ... before SJ returned and changed things a bit.

Since the author doesn't show the cover he's writing about:

Ah a trip down memory lane.

One thing hardly anybody knew back then was the huge barriers which Microsoft had erected to licensing any competing OS to the OEM manufacturers. Even assuming that Apple could have been more successful with cloning than the disaster it became, they still had to find a way compete in a rigged system. That way forward was frankly hopeless, and it would not have mattered if they'd started in 1992. Fortunately for us, they found another.

That definitely brings back memories. Thanks!

Mac bashing by my PC using friends was almost at a frenzy. Funny thing, is many of them have switched and are using Macs today. Go figure.

Yes, I remember the same...

Then, Steve came back and introduced the iMac. I ran and bought one. People wondered why I would buy a computer from a company that's going out-of-business.

    Little did they know...
