Not sure if I want to sell this just yet, but I was wondering if anyone is interested in purchasing it. This laptop new from Apple costs over $2,700 - see screenshot.

    Specs:
    2.2GHz Core 2 Duo
    4GB RAM
    160GB 7,200rpm HDD
    Glossy LCD
Mac OS X 10.5.1 Leopard (disc for Leopard included)
Eligible for extended AppleCare (purchased late June '07 so you can upgraded to the extended warranty up to June '08)

I love this computer, but I am thinking about buying one of the new Mac Pros since I mainly just use my MacBook Pro as a desktop computer attached to my 24" Dell 2407WFP display.

Offers, thoughts, and/or advice are all appreciated! :)

I have almost the same laptop and I'm getting ready to sell it for the ultraportable (heres to hoping!) so I'm curious to see what you get, but don't pretend the RAM is worth that much.

I hate to say it but you are going to get killed on this if you actually sell it. If you did in fact purchase the RAM upgrade from Apple then you will not see what you paid for it.

I would say with the RAM and HDD upgrade you would be looking at $1800-1900.

Thanks for the replies so far, I did not purchase the RAM from Apple (I know better than to do that). :)

So the laptop new from Apple would not cost ~$2700 then. :p

you should sell it before tuesday if you plan to sell it :)

if you're thinking of buying an updated macbook pro, i think you'd be better served keeping the 4gb (2x2gb) and putting back the original 2gb (2x1gb).

of course, the new mbps might use a different speed memory :(

Do you think the announcement of a subnotebook would affect the price of the existing line?

Yes it would if you bought it from Apple the way mine is configured. :p :)

I am considering getting a Mac Pro- so I could not use the MacBook Pro's RAM. :)

Only if Apple updates the rest of the lineup. :apple:

That laptop is $1700 on Apple refurb. Add $80 for new in the package 4gb RAM. $1780 new. Less with my student discount. Would you take $1500 shipped?

You're also looking at $150 in taxes... I think it's worth at least about $1750-1800

Sorry $1,500 seem too low of a price.

Refurb MBP = $1,802 (including tax)
4GB RAM from datamem = $116 (including tax)
Seagate 160GB 7200rpm HDD from OWC = $191 (with tax)

    Total of $2,109

Not saying that the MacBook Pro is worth exactly $2,109, but it is certainly worth more than $1,500 shipped - especially with all of the upgrades. Thanks for the offer though... :)

One of the perks of buying from someone else is to avoid the tax. So when did sellers start factoring in Tax?

Well if you are going to use the price of a refurb laptop from Apple to justify your offer you should realize the full price you would be paying.

In addition to the awaiting ultraportable, I suspect that the entire macbook pro line (15" and 17") will be updated with the new penryn chips

    btw, was the 160gb 7200rpm a build-to-order option or was it a do-it-yourself install?

well to show you savings as he/she said. When did students start getting a discount on refurbs? you said you could, but I never have found a way.

DIY, BTO was something outrageous like a 2+ week additional waiting time when I bought my MacBook Pro. :)

    Neither have I...

    Wouldn't be interested in a PCI-E G5 dual 2ghz w/ 8gb of RAM by any chance?

No sorry, I am looking for a Mac Pro. Power Mac G5's are great computers, I use to be the proud owner of a 2.3GHz Power Mac G5, but I want/need something with an Intel chip. Thanks for the offer though... :)

Would this include the original Apple hard drive so the new owner could swap it back so the notebook would still be Applecare eligible?

    I sent you a pm. :)

No I sold the old stock 120GB 5400rpm HDD when I upgraded the MacBook Pro to the 160GB 7200rpm HDD. This laptop is still covered under warranty, and extended warranty is available through Apple, should something happen. :)

The only thing that would not be covered is the HDD because it was replaced- and the only way Apple would know about that is if you told them....
