I just did the stupidest thing I had a bottle of trocapana oj and though I had placed the cap on it next to my macbook. Apparently it wasn't on because I accidentally knocked it over spending oj spilling out onto my keypad and trackpad. Luckily most of seemed to go onto the track pad as it spilled during my reaction of catching it. However a small amount went down the cracks between the keys mainly in the spacebar area.

The macbook itself still seems to work fine besides being sticky. I'm wondering though if this spill could have voided my warranty? Is there any way they can tell it went into the keypad area?

also part of my keys and trackpad are now sticky because of it.

How might i go about cleanup particular under and between the keys?

I eagerly await the post of some guy telling you how he NEVER EVER lets ANY food OR drink get near his computer and how this just proves him right.

Just get some cotton buds and some water and get swabbing!

You can remove the keys and just clean anything that might have slipped through.

ouch, that sux. I know, I've been without my ibook for the last 4 weeks because of coffee spillage.

I would turn it off, and makes sure it is completely dry before turning on again (minimum 48 hours). Then wipe everything down with a damp lint-free cloth. I don't think you'll have voided your warranty (Applecare???) just don't remove the cover to get underneath the keyboard or you will.

Oh, and I NEVER EVER EVER let food or drink near my 'top! Serves you right!

Just kidding, I'm always eating and playing with my PB. I have been lucky and never spilled anything though.

    Secret Confessions Time

My Macbook Pro stopped working off the battery one time. I had to plug it in for it to work. A day later, I was working in an awkward spot (on top of my clothes dryer--don't ask), with the laptop on a filled laundry basket. Without thinking, I turned on the dryer and walked away.

The vibrations caused the MBP to fall off the basket, onto the dryer top. It fell no further, thankfully. (Side note: It wouldn't have fallen if it wasn't a Mag-safe connector!)

So, worried about the damage, i put it onto another counter, plugged it in, and knocked over a glass of water behind the screen. Water goes in through the vents.

I hold the thing upside-down to dry out, plug it in again, and everything works except the battery. Thing is, what if i take it in to fix the existing problem, and they say the repair is not covered by Applecare because of evidence of a drop AND water damage?

Story ends: no problems... they replaced the battery, and it's been working fine.

O.P: I feel for you, my friend.

Actualy the thing that sucks the most is the fact that I do make it a point not to have drink or food around my computers(allways have). This is only one of the few rare times I have done it and look what happened :/ I shall now go back no food and drink at all after this ;)

Well I think my keyboard area fared pretty well. There is a few keys i will probably need to pop off to clean around the sides it looks like. thats to much of a problem.

My track pad is another matter as I just noticed its button is stuck in the down position(not sure if its from the OJ or may have broke recently) on the left side with the right being higher. Its got some stickyness on it too. So unless i can find a way to remove, clean it up then put it back together I doubt apple is going to be that willing to repair it :/

On that note I haven't yet bought applecare. I was planing on getting it later this month. Now I'm afraid if I go and buy it and want to use it for some later repair that they wont honor it and it would have been a wasteful investment.

Well, since you are being so patient...

I NEVER EVER let ANY food OR drink get near my computer. Scenarios like this just prove me right.

    ;) :p

In all honesty, though, I am eating dinner with an ice cold glass of pop (cola for rest of you) as we speak. :)

looks like my macbook is luckily back in working order now after cleaning out the bottom rows of keys on my keyboard. Trackpad seems fine too now.

Only problem is i cant figure out how to get the end key to go back on as the little plastic holder that attaches to the metal pieces came of with the key. Does anyone have any pointers? I just don't want to force it and break the plastic.

I'm throwing caution to the wind and knocking back a Guinness as I make this post. I enjoy it. If, someday, I were to spill a beer on my Macbook, I'd be unhappy, but I wouldn't stop doing it. The two go together far too well.

The cola, pop, soda, coke, thing is actually regional even in America. If a Midwesterner goes South and asks for a pop, they look at you like you're nuts, "Oh, you mean a coke. What flavor?"

    **Update**

Sorry for posting twice for the same quote. I didn't realize until after I posted, and this forum has no delete option.

got the little end key back on. It just needed a smaller precision flathead jewlers type screwdriver to coax the plastic piece of of the button and into the little metal tabs. I took this as an oportunity to clean my entire surface of my macbook with good old watter and a lens cloth including the lcd.

Since is back in working order no more drinks around my macbook for me :D

hell I know I'll use an old dell inspiron for that...oooops .... a well its a dell who cares.. :D

I'd tell you, but it isn't Secret Secret Confessions Time. ;)

Actually the truth is the least interesting part of that post, so I'll let your imagination run amok. The most interesting part is that I'm a big clumsy loser, but that ain't a secret.
