Maybe this is just me, but I noticed starting yesterday that words got filtered out with *'s. The first time, I wrote "sh*t" So fine. But then not too long ago something else got filtered into ***s and it was a longer post and word and I can't remember what word I had intended, but it certainly wasn't a curse.

Has there always been a language filter on? Just curious.

The filter isn't a new thing by any means – one limitation is that it'll blank out a word if it contains a profanity in its spelling, even if it's a perfectly innocent word.

For example, you can't type the name of the team the Scunny Bunny is the mascot of without falling foul of the filter, due to the second-to-fifth letters. ;)

    No, they're really not.

The fact that you're not allowed to speak their name on these hallowed forums should be indication enough of that. ;)

The profanity filter isn't perfect, because it gets occasional false positives, as mentioned above, and because it can be fooled by intentional misspellings. However, intentionally bypassing the filter is against forum rules. The purpose is to keep the forums suitable for all members. The minimum age to join is 13.
