I wondered if anyone might be able to help. I am having a few problems with my Final Cut Pro Express working on a MAC G4 466ghz with Radion 9800 Pro Mac ATI graphics card. My footage has been shot on 16:9 DVCAM and is stored on an external hard drive as an AVI file. When I import these files into Final Cut, I can't get it to display in 16:9 - only TV aspect 4:3. Although the image plays fine in the viewer. when i drag the footage onto the timeline, I seem unable to view it? Only if i render all the footage can i see it in the edit window. I would be grateful for any advice!

If I was on my Mac I could look up what setting it is, but there is some setting for your video that will dictate the 16:9 format. Once that is set you will see you video. The reason you can't see it now is that your Mac is using the Real Time Effects to render the video (to show 16:9 inside of 4:3). I wish I could remember what menu the option is in. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Are the files on AVI or MOV?

There is a sequence setting to switch between 4:3 and 16:9.
