Wonder if anyone can help? When I go to prefs in the finder and under the General tab choose 'CD's, DVD's and iPods' from the items to show on the desktop my external HD's 3 partitions all appear on the desktop as well as any CD I might have in!? anyone know why this might be happening? I'm running 10.3.5.

Cheers

Wait, do you mean you want to turn it off? so they don't appear? If the preference isn't sticking (it reverts when you close System Preferences), try repairing permissions. Beyond that, try deleting the preference files... I'm not sure which one that's in.

A partition is a division of a volume.

Example, you have one hard drive in one massive partition. That means, one drive, one volume

In your case, you have one hard drive and three partitions. That means, one drive, three volumes.
