MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (AP) -- A man who says he was severely burned when a portable toilet exploded after he sat down and lit a cigarette is suing a general contractor and a coal company, accusing them of negligence.

Ouch :eek: It would seem that he will be successful with the lawsuit. The pipe leaking methane is what caused the explosion.

The lawsuit claims Jenkins' face, neck, arms, torso and legs were severely burned last July after the cigarette ignited methane gas leaking from a pipe underneath the toilet unit.

He's lucky nothing else got burnt or blown off....

I seem to recall the MythBusters having difficulty in making a port-a-potty do just this.

Unaromatized methane?

Would still need to be a pretty strong leak to be able to happen.

I saw that on MythBusters too and it seems this story is untrue

IIRC, natural gas is heavier than air which would allow it to collect in the pit of the toilet which could cause an explosion.
