    ... and already a problem? :/

I have a Macbook, brand new with 2 gigs of RAM. It runs fine (and looks great! :p). But I have this one big problem..

Now, I can live with the one dead pixel, and hat the screen isnt exacly centered. But what I can't live with is this weird criss cross pattern at the tyop of the screen.

The first 1/4 (height) on the screen has this faint criss cross pattern that seems to be made up of dark(er) vs. light(normal) pixels.. Anyone who can tell me if this is normal? Is there a software fix (like reinstallning drivers)? For me, it seems to be a hardware problem since it won't show up when taking a screenshot and examining the top of that (in the center of the screen).

    Anyone?! :)

    Sincerely
    Jonas (happy, albeit this)

Absolutely not normal! It should be considered dead-on-arrival.

I most certainly will. Besides the one dead pixel, the pattern and the screen being of center, I can also now conclude that the computer whines whenever idle. I know this problem existed on the MPB, but I hadn't heard of it being a problem for the MacBooks aswell.. :(

Took me 4 weeks to get this computer. Will I have to wait another 4 weeks for repairs?

Hopefully they can just order in a new screen and fix it for you. :)

Today I visisted my local retailer. They agreed to order a new logic board, heatsink and screen. Yay horray! The only problem is it might take a while before the parts arrive. But when the first part does, they have to take in the machine and keep it until the others are there (they only open it once).

    But I'm happy anyway :)

Why don't you simply just insist on a new machine?

Its obviously faulty. You've had it one day.
Surely your entitled to exchange it?

They're not allowed (by apple?) to keep replacement parts without keeping the computer aswell. This is probably because there is a shortage, and done to prevente stores from piling up parts "just in case".

I guess they decide wheter to order a new computer, or just the parts. Here in Sweden, a retailer has like 2 - 3 repair tries before having to switch out the machine entierly.
