Flac to aac quality question

    If i were to download a flac album and convert to aac in iTune, I usually turn the flac to aiff then to aac.

    But would a flac cd rip be the same as ripping the cd since flac is an uncompressed rip

    FLAC is a lossless encoding so the quality is supposed to be the same as the CD. So you would be starting out with the same quality as the CD now if you convert it to the lossy aac then the quality will go down. But you can take them FLAC files and using something like XLD convert them to lossless aac files or if wanting the smaller file size/loss of quality XLD can go directly to lossy acc or rip the CD if you have it to either format even has the option to add directly to iTunes as well.

    just to be clear, flac is compressed, it's just not losslessly compressed.
