I'm looking at setting up my old 800Mhz 17" G4 iMac as a media server in the home theater. I'd like to pick up an eyeTV for it (as well as hook my 5G iPod up to it) -- but I can't seem to find out whether it has USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. Anyone know the answer there? I tried a bit of Googling, but all I could find was the number of USB ports -- not the version.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this for me! :)

My guess will be no. I had an 1GHz eMac, which came out after that model and it had USB 1.1. Apple was really really late into the usb 2.0 game. Heres its lowendmac page http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/imac15.html It doesn't say it has usb 2.0, but it doesn't say it has 1.1 either. I would just check later models and see if it says anything about 2.0 being introduced.
    EDIT:
It doesn't. the 1.25 GHz model introducted 2.0, sorry.

Only the later models had USB 2. The 800 had USB 1. Sorry. Try a fw solution if you can find one. More expensive, but much nicer IMO.

A FireWire solution works for the eyeTV (eyeTV 200)...

But my 5G iPod can only sync via USB. :(

I think I read it can sync via USB 1.1 as well (if very slowly  ) -- can anyone confirm this?

USB 2.0 came stardard on the new flat Form iMacs and the with the Aluminum Powerbooks G4 about 3 years ago and with G5's around the same time.

I can. I use my 5g video I pod with my iBook (USB 1.1) The first time it synched up it took a bit for for the small amounts of updates and the podcats I grab its fine.

It should sync, but very very slow. I wouldn't use your ipod at all on the iMac if you got it. I remember when the shuffle came out and there were arguments. If i remember correctly, the sync time to fill up a shuffle on 1.1 would be about twelve minutes. So keep those numbers in mind.

I have the exact model iMac that you have, and my iPod Nano syncs up just fine. It syncs pretty fast and it isn't much of a hassle to wait for it.

Good to know - Even if it takes a while, I'm rarely in any hurry when syncing my iPod. I should be in good shape with this setup :)
