I recently ripped apart my iBook G3 due to an infamous logic board failure. I was able to fix the logic board by reheating the soddering points on the graphics chip. However, in order to do this, I had to scrape off this yellow foam off the chip. Now, I am getting ready to patch it all up.

I don't know if I should replace the foam with something else (the old foam is in pieces and cannot be pieces back together). Does anyone know what this foam is for and if I need it on the chip? Thanks!
