    Hey guys,
I just installed my new Samsung 100gb 5400rpm drive to my Rev C Powerbook. I popped in the OSX restore DVD, and it can't seem to find the new drive. I'm assuming I need to somehow format my new drive (I'm hoping the drive's not dead/I screwed up). Can someone walk me through the process of having my PB make friends with my new harddrive?

    Thanks!

When you launch from the CD to install the system, go up to the menu and open Disk Utility. You can format the drive from there.

Forgive me for asking a painfully obvious question... but where should I see Tools?

    Thanks

It should come up on the left handside. You can see that I have two hard-drives attached to the system. It should still come up even if it hasn't be formatted correctly. It may come up saying bad formatting. click on the harddrive and on the righthand side, format it. by going into restore

I don't have that. The only drive listed is the CD that is in there (the reinstall disc). Clearly something is wrong... I REALLY don't feel like ripping apart the PB again... Does anybody have any suggestions to try before taking out the HD?

...and if I take out the HD, is it safe to say it's dead? Again, I REALLY don't want to return it to Newegg...

This is the drive I have:

    Thanks!

Can you feel the HD spinning up (feel/hear a slight vibration)? If not then either the HD isnt connected or it is dead.

Once you put the installation DVD in it should load up a screen that says "Select your language" or something to the effect. In the menu bar at the top, you should see something like "options" or "disk utility", either way the menu bar should allow you to access disk utility, and then format the HD, that is if it is installed correctly and/or not faulty.

I tried installing an new HD in my PB and found it way too fiddly. I kept thinking I was going to break something any second.

For the small cost of getting someone else to put it in I thought it was worth it..don't play with it unless you are really confident.
