I'm taking a computer science course which is basically an introduction to C++. Anyways, I'll most likely be doing some work at home and I'd rather not have to do in on the family PC (working on an iBook is more than just aesthetically pleasing). Our teacher recommended Bloodshed, but it only works in Windows. Anything free, basic and easy to use for mac?

Umm... gcc and g++ come with OSX. Install the developer tools. You'll get XCode as an IDE, and it is decent. If you don't need a full IDE, then get something like TextWrangler or SubEthaEdit. Both are free for non-commercial use and will give you syntax highlighting.
