Freedom Force requires that I have the cdrom inserted while playing, despite the installation of a 580.2MB file on my hard drive. Running the cdrom drive (as FF does constantly) burns up my battery way too fast. Is there any way to play without the cdrom inserted?

I tried ripping an image of the cd and mounting that, but FF still requires the cd and actually won't recognize the cd while the image is mounted. I know the image was valid, because I was able to burn it to cd and use that cd to run the game.

I'm reluctant to spend $80 to get a $20 game working. Has anyone tried this specifically with Freedom Force? How does mounting with Toast differ from doing so with the standard OS X Disk Utilities?

I should also have noted in the original post that I am currently running OS X 10.3.9.
