So I'm curious, who here has signed up? A buddy of mine invited me to join up, so I did a few months back. There's a ton of people on there, and it's interesting to run into others u know.

you're probably better off not replying there fella... this site sounds like the foundation for some kind of super-inbred-community of tomorrow!! :p :p

We have something kind of similar here... it's called www.friendsreunited.co.uk it has many uses, including getting your own back on anyone that pi$$ed you off at school... :D :p

    Skill!

no freakin' way, man. my friends, relatives, neighbors, &c are always on me to join... you have to ask yourself: why?

i'll tell you why: it's all about the the body count. once you get friendstered, you're just another number in the pile, man. my roommate said "hey dude, you should get in on this. it's fun." but the look in his eyes said "ONE MORE FOR ME! FRIENDSTER COUNT MUST GROW! GROW, MY PRECIOUS!"

ultimately, i feel like it's keeping score, using your friends as points... just kinda weird.

    Re: friendster.com

I'm on it. It's great. I hate the name of the service. I've met some cool people, and by that I actually mean PHYSICALLY met, and they're all cool.

I've met bands, got into gigs for free, and it's a great way to market projects you're doing.

Search your network for Hamish, you never know... I might be there.

the name is a bit silly - but its probably going for a younger crowd.

I've done Match.com several years ago and it was fun.

It appears to be for the young. As for friends, able to meet them in this forum!

I don't have any friends, and I've never liked anyone I ever met. Ever.

(well, britboy looked sorta cute in that suit, y'know, the floppy hair....)

It's not really a dating thing as such. It's literally Napster but with friends. Share and introduce - it's all good feeling.

I know the dating element is there, but from what I've seen it's not the main reason people are there.

Get yourself on, you might surprise yourself.

I hear that. I still get heaps of work done though.

Seriously though, spread the Mac on Friendster - maybe you or Arn could start a Friendster profile called MacRumors, and we could all be friends.

See, it goes to your head...:D

The thing is that I've started to withdraw from online a bit. I don't habituate iChat that much any more and have curtailed activity at MR a bit as well. I've got way too much going on....maybe if things slow down (ha, right) :p

You have a gun in London? You nasty person! :D

Well, I sure hope it was a gun, a crossbow would hurt like hell and a regular bow wou - well, I'm not sure how that could work.

yeah, I'm on friendster cause my ex kept insisting, but I'm not sure why. The bad signal to noise ratio renders the thing pretty useless to me. Looks like a great place for exhibitionists and "my friend count's 987"-types.

In the "Who I'd like to meet:" field I had to put "Nobody, really", so that probably makes me an especially bad candidate for finding much worth in this service. Oh well, either I'm a recluse, or I'm having too much fun in real life :)

i thought i'd already replied to this thread, it seems not.

yeah i'm on it, and it's kinda cool, like a 6 degrees of separation type thing. see how you're connected to your friends indirectly through other people...

and yeah, i kinda get annoyed at all the i have 500 friends type people. the only people on my list are actual real friends that i know and hang out with, none of the stupid stuff on there.
