I just got back to college and I have a static IP address now. I know I can turn on FTP access in Sharing. I'd just like to know how my Windows using friends could FTP into my files and where to put them to give them access.

We already have a free FTP program provided by our college.

First I would recommend making a new account for your friends to log in with. Make the account somewhat restricted, and not an administrator equivalent.

Once this is done, place files in the home directory of that user, and they should be able to upload and download to and from that directory without issue.

After all of that, turn on FTP, and test the account.

Make sure you have a static IP; most colleges are using DHCP in order to handle the internet traffic a college generates.
