Did anyone see the ScanSnap at Macworld SF 2005? I've been hoping Fujitsu would announce OS X support for their ScanSnap scanner but figured it would never happen. But then I was pleasantly suprised to find a thread saying that the ScanSnap was at the Macworld to see how much interest there is for it on OS X. The thread above shows a link to the Japanese version of the ScanSnap manager, and I was lucky enough to get someone to email me the English "beta" version. Though it's called beta, it looks beautiful and ready for use. (I don't have the scanner yet so I can't really try it out)

Today I called Fujitsu and they said there are currently no plans to release OS X support for this scanner. It would be wonderful if they did, so I'm wondering why there's not much interest in it from the Mac community. Fujitsu went through the trouble of writing the software and the manual for OS X so why not release it?

Doesn't anyone else have the need for a document scanner like this? Or am I an oddball?

Because people like Epson and HP have been supporting the mac for years, which means most don't have a Fujitsu scanner. Its a Catch 22. We don't want it because we don't have a Fujitsu scanner, and the reason we don't have a Fujitsu scanner is because there is not software for it. So buy from a company that has support already, and be happy.

If only this scanner had been available a few years ago at this price. If you have the need for front and back scanning at once then it's the ticket.

Probably not many other users here require that. Surely the scanner software will be released for OS X and the capability to start it from PS or other program internally will be added (it's only software!)

Ha! That doesn't make any sense to me. Here's how I think about it: I want it cuz I need the features it provides! Period! I want and need a sheetfeed scanner like this - whoever the manufacture is, and neither HP nor Epson has anything like it for the price. And I don't want a huge, slow, flatbed w/ sheet feed attachement either.

So the ScanSnap seems like the perfect tool! Oh well
