It's an intermittent fault and i wondered if it was related to heat?
The laptops been on a flat desk all day and it's not exactly a hot climate here!
any ideas?

It certainly looks like it :(

Does the ATI card inside have it's own fan that might not be working?

I don't have any software that will make the card work particularly hard to try and get it hot, will playing a DVD work?

Same here

I'm having a similar problem. It happened to me a few months ago and someone on here told me to try the PMU reset thing and it fixed it. But now it happened again and resetting the PMU isn't working anymore. If it is the graphics card thing, how much do you think something like that would cost if i send it to apple, the laptop is about 4 or 5 years old now, so no longer in warranty with apple. Thanks in advance
