I have a 40GB HDD in my Late 2003 G3 iBook, and have just bought a new 20GB iPod. The tone produced by the hard disks when running seems to be at the same pitch... so are they the same/similar drives?

Now I think on it, the iBook drive is Fujitsu and the iPod is toshiba, but still... comments?

No, laptop is a 2.5" drive and the iPod is a 1.8" drive. A spinning disk is a spinning disk... and they are spinning at roughly the same speed so they would make similar noises.
