    Please help!

I have a G3 Mac that is have constant freeze/lock ups. The OS is 10.2.4. It appears to be random and not related to a particular program.

When it freezes I can do nothing but restart. The real interesting thing is that when I brought it back to my office I left it running for a week straight without one freeze up. I had every application possible launched and would occasionally “play around with the machine”. However, as soon as I put it back in production it freezes. In fact just yesterday, it froze up 4 times before noon.

Unfortunately, I am a windows IT guy ( ) and have very little experience with the MAC and the one guy who did have experience is no longer with the company.

Try these things (I can't check the exact instructions, as I'm not using 10.2):

    1. Go to /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select your disk and click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
    2. Go to /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly", and then enter your password. Wait until the command prompt appears again.
    3. Try repairing the disk using Disk Utility and fsck (see this for more information).
    4. If the above fail, create a new user account and see if the problems occur there. If they do, then the problem will be somewhere in the Library of the other user, in which case you could use the new user primarily or use trial and error to find the cause of the problem in the old user's Library.
    5. If the problems still occur, try reinstalling the system.
