g4 dual 1.25 to hdmi video issues

I have powermac g4 dual 1.25 and recently got a 42" akai lcd with hdmi inputs on it, i also got a dvi to hdmi cable and for some reason the two will not talk to each other, the monitor says no signal, now i can boot the system with my apple cinema screen and then plug in the akai and picture works great but on it's own there is no connection, i even tried putting the aka on the second monitor port and the cinema on the first but still no difference cinema is recognized while the akai goes unnoticed, any suggestions?
